Another great after-school activity at Elementary is Art Club! Mrs. Wilinski and Ms. Hunt welcome these creative Wildcats to come to the art room after school to make beautiful artwork. The students in these photos are working on a project inspired by Iris Scott and her Shaking Dog artwork. As the art teachers guide students through the lesson, they always offer multiple opportunities for "artist's choice" when describing ways the young artists might personalize their work. #LifeintheW

One of the great after-school activities at Elementary is Game Club! Together with Mr. Roth and Mr. Ballesta, these Wildcats get together and play a variety of new and classic games. Recently, the club learned how to play Catan Jr., a kid-friendly version of the popular game Catan. The students had a great time learning how to trade resources, build settlements, and strategize with their friends.
The Game Club is a fun way for students to unwind after a busy school day while learning new skills and making friendships. Whether it’s Catan Jr., a classic board game, or a competitive card game, the Wildcats are always excited to see what new games the club has in store.

The Primary School hosted a fun-filled playdate on Friday after school and transformed the gym into a hub of activities and games!
These Wildcats and their families had a great time, kicking off the weekend by running around the gym playing games, hanging out with friends, and making new ones.

Ms. Syverud and Ms. Sancho's 4th grade dual language classes recently performed their La Culebra plays in ELA. The students rehearsed and practiced for five days and many got creative and included backdrops, props, lighting, costumes, and sound effects into their plays. They did a fantastic job! The theme of the play focuses on the importance of doing good deeds without expecting anything in return - perfect for Respect Week! #LifeintheW

Congratulations to the Woodland Middle School Science Olympiad Team for winning First Place at the Harper College Regionals on Saturday! This is Woodland's FIRST regional win in team history so let's hear it for these Wildcats! 👏👏👏
The team had a strong showing at Regionals with 10 students winning AT LEAST one gold medal in an individual event, and 5 students winning multiple gold medals. The team will now prepare to compete at University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana on April 12. #LifeintheW 💚🤩

Students at Woodland Intermediate have been learning about 3D printing after checking out books in the library! First they leaned what it is and why it is important, and today they started working on a 3D print of their own. #LifeintheW

Mr. Gomez’s 4th grade Dual Language Wildcats spent their class exploring figurative language, alliterations, and onomatopoeia and how they can apply to their own poetry. Students being able to express themselves creatively in both English and Spanish is just one the many amazing aspects of Woodland’s Dual Language Program!

Ms. McGinn’s 3rd grade class had a special visit from a former Wildcat and current Blue Devil—Miss Metro East, Brooke Herod! She spent time with our wildcats and shared an important message about keeping your heart healthy. Brooke talked to the students about how they can use their unique talents, along with activities they enjoy, to keep their hearts healthy and make a positive impact in their community. Calling all Future Kindergarteners!!! Will your child be attending Kindergarten at Woodland for the 2025-2026 School Year? Please join us for the Wildcat Welcome event at Primary on Thursday, March 6 form 5 - 6:30 p.m. This event is for incoming Kindergarten students to explore learning stations, meet Wiley the Wildcat, and learn more about school! Some parents may not know that planning for Kindergarten starts this early, so please help us make that connection. #LifeintheW

Today, our Intermediate Wildcats were visited by FourPoets, OneMic, a spoken word poetry group from Northern Illinois University. During this interactive assembly, these artists shared original poetry highlighting Black History, including a special “Poem on the Spot” inspired by our school. Additionally, they performed and created a live painting that celebrated Black Culture. Combining poetry, art, and Black History this event was a fantastic way to conclude Woodland’s celebration of Black History Month.

Woodland was honored to host a group of educators from Birmingham City Schools for a day of learning in the W! They spent the day touring Woodland's Dual Language classrooms to learn about our program and see it in action. They are currently building a similar program for their students which will make them the first school district in Alabama to offer dual language programming! Thank you for visiting our schools 💚 #LifeintheW
