WMS built a beautiful ofrenda with built-in learning activities and QR codes that students can use to learn more about Día de los Muertos. This display helps promote cultural awareness and celebrate the meaning behind Día de los Muertos - a time to honor and remember loved ones who have passed. Teachers were invited to bring their students to the LRC for this supplemental learning opportunity. Here are a few photos from Ms. Levin, Ms. Rumi, and Ms. Bernick's classes visiting the ofrenda. Thank you to Ms. Castrejón for inviting us to stop by!

Thank you to Ms. Thomas for sharing these photos from a day in the life of a Wildcat 🤩

This past Friday, the Lake County Regional Office of Education #34 (LCROE) hosted its annual Parent Mentor Program Showcase, welcoming community leaders and partners from Beach Park School District, Round Lake Beach School District, and Woodland District 50, along with State Representative Joyce Mason, State Senator Adriane Johnson, and Warren Township Supervisor Elmer Fallos.
Special guests also included Kathy Davis from the Parent Engagement Institute (PEI); Assistant Superintendent Courtney Curry and Director of Finance and Operations Pia Pinello from LCROE; Superintendent Dr. Robert Machak, Elementary Principal Jared Reardon, and Intermediate Assistant Principal Michelle Mallari from Woodland; as well as Miriam Torres and Principal Jennifer Glickey from District 56.
The event celebrated the ongoing success of the Parent Mentor Program through stories and testimonials from Parent Mentors, principals, and teachers, showing how this initiative continues to make a meaningful difference for students, families, and schools.
Now in its fourth year, the program continues to thrive thanks to the support of our community, Woodland staff, and local legislators. Their belief in our mission helps ensure the Parent Mentor Program remains strong, evolving, and full of heart.
We are so proud of the incredible work our Parent Mentors do each and every day. A special thank-you to Tanya Abbey and Lavonna Garner for your leadership, passion, and dedication to Woodland, our students, and our staff. Your hard work is making a lasting impact in our learning community!

Red Ribbon Week is a time when students learn about personal health and wellness and are encouraged to make healthy choices! Each of our schools will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with age-appropriate activities, spirit days, and presentations on what it means to be healthy and how to live a healthy life.
In these pictures you can see WMS students in National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and Students of Service (SOS) working on Red Ribbon Week posters with Det. Hansen & Det. Gullifor.

Have you heard of Woodland's Saturday Study Hall and Homework Help program? On Saturday mornings, all Wildcats have access to FREE tutoring and mentorship. Students can work one-on-one with Woodland teachers, or in small groups with their peers to complete homework, study for a test, get help on a project, have someone proofread their paper, practice speaking Spanish, work through a math concept that is giving them trouble, play educational games, and whatever else your Wildcat needs!
Some students come every week because this has become such a beneficial part of their routine, and some Wildcats only come when they need a quiet place to work on extra homework or study. Some of our students sign up when their parents can't help them with a certain subject, and some have joined us on Saturday morning when they are trying to catch up after missing a few days of school. Whatever the reason, everyone is welcome!

Join us next Saturday for a relaxed, no stress, supportive environment! #LifeintheW

We were honored to welcome speakers from the Lake County Centers for Independent Living (LCCIL), who shared their personal stories about living with both visible and invisible disabilities.
Students learned how our guests navigated school, made friends, pursued their dreams, and lived life to the fullest. Thank you for showing our Wildcats that everyone, despite our differences, has unique strengths and abilities.

Students played games, made slime, wrapped mummies, and got creative with fun fall-themed projects. It was a perfect way to spend a chilly Friday in the W!
We want to thank our awesome Parent Volunteers for taking time out of their busy schedules to help make today extra special!

Thank you to Lt. Celada and Firefighter Stadie with the Gurnee Fire Department for spending time with Ms. Muldowney's 2nd grade dual language students. The students were so excited to learn from them, and make real-world connections between reading and our community. #LifeintheW 🚒🔥

Mrs. Coda sent this photo and caption:
"Matching outfits, matching smiles — we all belong in The W!"
Way to go Wildcats! #LifeintheW
