Woodland Intermediate held a special assembly with a performance by the Veterans Day Choir, essay contest winners, and speakers from the school district and community! Dr. Machak shared lessons learned from his father who served in WWII, and we heard from three Gurnee Police Officers who talked about the lifetime friendships they have built during their service. Students invited special veterans from their family to participate in the event. #LifeintheW ❤️🤍💙

Three classes at Woodland Intermediate earned a special treat to celebrate outstanding attendance – Pizza Parties! Congratulations to Ms. Cooksey’s, Ms. Raths's, and Ms. Rodriguez’s classes for your excellent attendance in September. We are so proud of your dedication and commitment to learning. These celebrations are a great reminder that attendance matters and is something to be celebrated.

Take a look behind the scenes as the Wildcat Media Group puts together the Woodland Elementary Morning Announcements! The students are responsible for recording, creating, and editing the school’s morning announcements with Ms. Brooks & Ms. Watt. Club members participate in on-camera segments, read scripts, and assist with technology as part of the production process. It was so fun watching the creation process in action as the students helped each other adjust mics, practice lines, and edit their scripts on the fly! #LifeintheW
Woodland was honored to host recent guests from Singapore for a tour of Woodland Intermediate. Our guests were in town to attend the National PBIS Leadership Forum, and they toured 4th and 5th grade classrooms to see how we are implementing the multi-tiered PBIS framework in our schools. WMS built a beautiful ofrenda with built-in learning activities and QR codes that students can use to learn more about Día de los Muertos. This display helps promote cultural awareness and celebrate the meaning behind Día de los Muertos - a time to honor and remember loved ones who have passed. Teachers were invited to bring their students to the LRC for this supplemental learning opportunity. Here are a few photos from Ms. Levin, Ms. Rumi, and Ms. Bernick's classes visiting the ofrenda. WMS Staff shows their Woodland spirit during Red Ribbon Week!
The Great Kindergarten Pumpkin Investigation in Ms. O'Neil, Ms. Beaudry, Ms. Bensch, and Ms. Knapp's classes! The students estimated the number of lines, the circumference, and the height and weight of their pumpkins - then collected data to see how close they were. They also made a guess about if their pumpkin would float or sink and had a great time dunking their pumpkin in a bin of water to see who was right! Thank you to the parent/family volunteers who helped guide the investigation at each table. #LifeintheW
