This was a busy week of training for Woodland's Parent Mentors! They are ready to join their partner teacher in the classroom starting next week. This morning they had a meet and greet with the Principals and presented their versions of a "Perfect School" and explained how they will lead with their head, heart and feet.

Thank you for attending the first Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) meeting of the year! We had a great turnout to hear from Martha Lucía Aristizábal, a bilingual therapist from Warren Township Youth and Family Services. The topic was “How to help your children prepare for the start of the school year.” While the adults were engaging in the discussion, students were busy crafting with Woodland Dual Language teachers! Thank you to the United Way, Community Trust Credit Union, Starbucks, Jewel Osco, Waukegan Park District and Tacos El Norte for donating prizes and materials for this event. #LifeintheW

Ms. Figueroa is a 5th Grade Dual Language Spanish Teacher at Woodland Intermediate. This is her first year teaching and her students adore her. Look at this awesome photo of the WMS Marching Wildcats lined up on the practice field last Friday morning (9/12) in the fog! They are practicing for their upcoming show based on music from The Lion King. WMS Golf Update!
Congratulations to Noah A., who medaled and finished in 9th place out of 94 golfers at the State golf meet in Metamora Fields on Friday. Noah shot a 75 (+4), which is a school record.

Today we visited Ms. Andrada's class at Woodland Intermediate and the students were all smiles as they worked in pairs and small groups. Ms. Andrada is new to Woodland, but she comes to us with 10+ years of teaching experience, and things are off to a great start in her classroom.

Arigatō! Elementary students had special visitors from Japan today. A group of Japanese graduate students are studying to be teachers and they are visiting the United States through a program at the College of Lake County. The future teachers taught Woodland students the art of origami and answered questions about schools in Japan. Many students were excited to hear that soccer and Fortnite are also popular in Japan! #LifeintheW

Ms. Bensch and her Kindergarten students going over ROAR expectations (R: Respectful - follow directions) and modeling numbers on a 5-frame! The students then broke into smaller groups to visit math stations around the classroom. It's a great day to be a Wildcat!

Great news out of WMS: Congratulations to Noah A. for winning Sectionals yesterday at Ingersoll Golf Course in Rockford. Noah shot a 73 and will be competing at the State meet next Friday in Joliet. Go Wildcats! #LifeintheW ⛳️

Thank you to the Woodland PTA for bringing the Scholastic Book Fair to Intermediate! Our Wildcats had a wonderful time finding new and exciting books and stories to read!

As a reminder, you can visit the book fair during Intermediate Curriculum Night. It’s a wonderful way to spark a love of reading while connecting with teachers and learning more about the year ahead.
