WMS is hosting three orientation sessions for 6th-graders and new students. The event will start in the Learning Center for a quick activity, and a brief tour will follow. To make sure we have room for as many as possible, we ask that you bring only one adult and one student. There are 50 student slots per orientation. Officer Hansen stopped by Wildcat Summer Adventures for a meet and greet with students. We learned all about what a School Resource Officer (SRO) does, and the students had so many fun questions for her. Thank you Officer Hansen and the Gurnee Police Department for being such great community partners!

The Board of Education approved the hiring of three Assistant Principals at Woodland Middle School to fill one vacancy, and the two additional positions that were approved earlier this year. A warm Woodland welcome to Lourdes Marrero, Derrick Williamson, and Robert Taterka.
Woodland Administrators took a celebration tour across the district to surprise Woodland retirees at their office or in their classroom with gifts and well wishes. We wish all of our retirees a happy retirement! Thank you for your dedicated service to the Woodland learning community and your many contributions to #LifeintheW
Our summer adventure Wildcats have arrived and they are ready for a great day! When the students arrived, they made their way to the cafeteria to meet their teachers. Plenty of Woodland staff and administrators on hand to greet our summer friends and help them find their table. Joe Wenner is Woodland's Bus Driver of the Year!
Thousands of Woodland students (and their parents) depend on our bus drivers for a safe ride to and from school. Mr. Joe was recognized by his fellow Transportation coworkers as someone who has gone above and beyond his duties as a driver, has an excellent safety score, and is always kind to others. He takes the time to get to know the students on his route, and greets their families with a friendly smile. Mr. Joe has a great attendance record, and he is a trusted mentor and leader for other drivers.
Congratulations Mr. Joe, and thank you for all you do in service to our learning community!
We kicked off two days of promotion excitement with the annual 8th Grade Awards Ceremony this morning. Tonight these students will cross the promotion stage and tomorrow the other 8th Graders will get their turn in the spotlight!
Congratulations to our newest NJHS members! Last night, 89 amazing 7th graders made a commitment to be leaders in the WMS community through scholarship, service, character, and citizenship.
In honor of Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, here is a photo of an actual ray of sunshine! Angelo White is the crossing guard at Washington Street and Almond Road outside of Woodland Middle School. Every day he is out there spreading joy and keeping our students safe. It's impossible not to smile when Angelo is on the job. Thank you for all you do!
