Music in the W! Woodland Intermediate students walked into Music class and couldn't wait to make music on these big colorful drums. They worked on a two-part beat to a Swahili greeting song from Kenya called "Jambo Bwana". They were excited to hear a phrase they were familiar with in the song: "Hakuna Matata" = "No Worries"
Honoring those who lost their lives and the heroes who responded by teaching this history to our students who weren't born yet. Pictured here are students in Mr. Lakemacher's class making remembrance posters and reflecting on the tragic events that we promised to Never Forget. Today we remember the innocent lives lost, and the many lives that were forever changed on Sept. 11, 2001.

Please join us in welcoming two new Assistant Principals to the Woodland Intermediate Team! The Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Aug. 17 to approve the employment of Ms. Goldman and Mr. Silasiri to fill two vacancies at the Intermediate school before the start of the school year.
Aileen Goldman is the new Assistant Principal/Special Education Supervisor. Ms. Goldman has a Special Education background from her experiences in Skokie District 69 and Passages Charter School in Chicago.
James Silasiri is the new Assistant Principal to fill the vacancy created when Pablo Arboleda moved to the administrative team at Woodland Elementary. Mr. Silasiri has been part of the Woodland learning community as a 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher at Middle School since 2002.

We had an absolute blast at Gurnee Days this weekend! Our super 70's "Woodland Rocks" float looked great thanks to all the helpers who pitched in to create props, and the @WMS Marching Band added music to the "Celebration!" (Kool & the Gang) #LifeintheW
Happening Now: Medication Drop-Off
Medication Drop-Off for ALL schools will be on Monday, Aug. 14 at Woodland Middle School from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 3 - 7 p.m.
Nurses and health assistants from each school are here to take medications, physicals, vaccine forms and discuss health needs with parents ahead of the "meet and greet" days. We wanted to make it a one-stop event for families with children in multiple schools.
Parents are strongly encouraged to drop off medication today if at all possible!

Yesterday, district and school administrators were surprised by a pop-up performance from some of our Woodland Middle School band members to kickoff a day of training and collaboration.
The students did a great job, and by the end of the performance we were clapping, tapping, dancing along - and energized for a full day of important work. If you want to see the WMS Marching Band in action, come see them at the Gurnee Days Parade on Aug. 13 🥁🎺🎷

On Wednesday, Aug. 2, all four Woodland school offices will be closed from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. so that our school administrators and office staff have the opportunity to participate in professional development. This training is also available to our district office colleagues, which may temporarily limit our availability to respond to questions and requests. We appreciate your patience and look forward to a great school year ahead!
