To follow this recipe, you will need a few scoops of Science and Math! The Wildcat Summer Adventures 4th-7th grade classes partnered to do some baking today. Thank you to Arbor for sharing your ovens with our pastry chefs. #LifeintheW

Wishing all of our #LifeintheW friends and family a safe and happy 4th of July! The district will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the holiday.

Officer Hansen stopped by Wildcat Summer Adventures for a meet and greet with students. We learned all about what a School Resource Officer (SRO) does, and the students had so many fun questions for her. Thank you Officer Hansen and the Gurnee Police Department for being such great community partners!

Woodland Administrators took a celebration tour across the district to surprise Woodland retirees at their office or in their classroom with gifts and well wishes. We wish all of our retirees a happy retirement! Thank you for your dedicated service to the Woodland learning community and your many contributions to #LifeintheW

Our summer adventure Wildcats have arrived and they are ready for a great day! When the students arrived, they made their way to the cafeteria to meet their teachers. Plenty of Woodland staff and administrators on hand to greet our summer friends and help them find their table. Excited smiles to see friends and previous teachers waiting in the cafeteria! #LifeintheW

Woodland Intermediate is creating a large-scale art project with Artist Damon Lamar Reed, thanks to funding and support from the Woodland PTA 50. The students participated in conceptual sessions to help shape the inspiration for the mural design, and then helped to install the mosaic mural on the wall in their school.
The end product is meant to symbolize all of the many different people that make Intermediate a special place. How beautiful that everyone had a hand in designing the concept, AND creating the actual artwork. When you see yourself in the artwork, you know you belong.

Joe Wenner is Woodland's Bus Driver of the Year!
Thousands of Woodland students (and their parents) depend on our bus drivers for a safe ride to and from school. Mr. Joe was recognized by his fellow Transportation coworkers as someone who has gone above and beyond his duties as a driver, has an excellent safety score, and is always kind to others. He takes the time to get to know the students on his route, and greets their families with a friendly smile. Mr. Joe has a great attendance record, and he is a trusted mentor and leader for other drivers.
Congratulations Mr. Joe, and thank you for all you do in service to our learning community!

Parent Information Night, May 24
Woodland D50 has partnered with psychologist and educator Dr. Doug Bolton to host a presentation that will address the suggestions and concerns that were shared by parents and guardians in response to the ongoing student behavior issues at Woodland Middle School. Dr. Bolton will share the latest research on creating inclusive school communities that support student safety and healthy engagement along with guidelines for understanding and managing challenging behavior. We will also be sharing our vision for next steps in our ongoing work to address these concerns.
This event is open to all Woodland parents and guardians in any grade, not limited to Middle School.

Woodland Intermediate will be creating a large-scale art project with Artist Damon Lamar Reed, thanks to funding and support from the Woodland PTA 50. Today the students, staff, and several parent volunteers had the opportunity to meet Mr. Reed and begin the conceptual work of compiling words, pictures, symbols, and ideas that help tell the story of who we are as a school community. The students were ALL IN with great ideas. Several themes emerged around ideas of family, friendship, and belonging. Many students talked about how important it is to express yourself, and to be happy being YOU.
Stay tuned to Mr. Sheldon's newsletter for project updates! #LifeintheW

Happy School Nurse Day to the health professionals providing comfort and care for all of us in the Woodland learning community. Your role is critical in improving public health, and ensuring student success by bridging health care and education. Thank you for all you do in our schools to keep students healthy, safe, and ready to learn!

Woodland Intermediate P.E. students run the mile during Presidential Fitness Testing.
We are proud of these students for trying hard and giving it their best effort.
We are also proud of the students you see cheering in the photo. They stopped what they were doing during recess to encourage their classmates and cheer for the runners.

Saturday Study Hall & Homework Help Begins Dec. 10!
Woodland will begin offering a Saturday Study Hall & Homework Help program on Saturday mornings starting Dec. 10. Teachers may recommend a student attends, or parents may register their child, based on the student's academic needs. Whether a student needs assistance in a specific content area, or they just need a quiet place to study or work on a project, this program is meant to be flexible.
The program will be offered on Saturday mornings from 8 - 11 a.m. at Woodland Intermediate, and registration is required each week so that we can plan accordingly for staff.
