Warren High School students have been paired up with Elementary students to spend time together reading, talking, playing games, and doing activities together. The concept is to give the Elementary student one-on-one attention, and to build a relationship with someone they can look up to. The younger students look forward to spending time with their mentors, and their faces light up when their high school mentor arrives each week.
This morning, the mentors planned a special Halloween event for the students and they worked together to complete a series of challenges and activities. #LifeintheW

Students in Maestra Weece's third grade class made twirly birds (pájaros que giran) and performed experiments related to gravity and patterns of movement. ¿Cómo se mueve el pájaro que gira?
3-PS2-2. Make observations and/or measurements of an object’s motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion.

Students Mr. Lees and Ms. Campbell's PE class had fun working together to complete the Escape room challenge, Escape the Zombie Invasion!

Veterans Day Hallway of Heroes is taking shape! If you know any Veterans, turn in your form to Mrs Grogan of the Community Involvement Committee.

Thank you to everyone who attended the first Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) of the 2023-2024 school year! We had a great turnout, and it was wonderful to see our families getting to know each other and making connections. The adults heard presentations about Mental Health, and Community Resources, and learned new tips for getting involved in their child's school. The kids spent time working on a craft with Woodland teachers and Warren Township High School student volunteers from Avanza. Starbucks, Jewel, and Tacos el Norte donated food and raffle prizes (look how cute those owl cake pops were in the photos).

Maestra Martinez Aguilar's 3rd grade Dual students had the opportunity to make connections with real world outside of the classroom using a real compass to create a map of our school and its surroundings. They were also able to verify their claim about where the cardinal directions were. "Los puntos cardinales Norte, Sur, Este, Oeste"

First grade artists learned to draw a pumpkin using curved lines. Using a white oil pastel, they traced their lines and created a resist. They then painted warm colors for the pumpkin and cool colors for the background. First graders were excited to find that the oil pastel 'pushed away' or resisted the paint!
25.A.1d. Visual Arts: Identify the elements of line, shape, space, color and texture; the principles of repetition and pattern; and the expressive qualities of mood, emotion and pictorial representation.

Mrs. Myers's first grade class had a special visitor come to their classroom to help them learn about their community! Officer Hansen visited to discuss how police officers help their community.
SS.1.CV.1:With guidance and support, explain how individuals that live, learn, and work together make important decisions, and the effect that these decisions have on a variety of diverse communities.

There's nothing better than curling up with a good book in the library!

The month of October is National Principals Month! At Woodland we are so fortunate to have four dedicated school leaders taking care of our learning community. Let's see how well you know our principals!
Which principal is the biggest football fan? 🏈 Which principal has an identical twin? 🐯🐯 Which principal loves dogs almost as much as Wildcats? 🐕 Which principal was once lead singer in a rock band? 🎤 The answers can be found in the Weekly Newsletter HERE: https://www.smore.com/ct92fy
We invite you to join us in showing our collective appreciation to these dedicated leaders and #ThankaPrinicpal with an email to your child’s principal or a kind word about them on social media. Throughout the year, our school leaders may only hear from stakeholders when there is a problem that needs solving or an issue that a parent/guardian feels needs attention. If you have positive feedback or a success story to share, this would be a great time to send it along and show a little “TLC” to four individuals who care for so many others each day.

Today Woodland celebrates National Custodian Day! We appreciate our school custodians who go above and beyond to keep our schools clean and safe. You are often the first to arrive in the morning, stand ready to assist throughout the day, and stay into the evening to make sure our schools are ready to welcome our staff and students for a great day in #LifeintheW.
