Maestra Martinez Aguilar's 3rd grade Dual students had the opportunity to make connections with real world outside of the classroom using a real compass to create a map of our school and its surroundings. First grade artists learned to draw a pumpkin using curved lines. Using a white oil pastel, they traced their lines and created a resist. They then painted warm colors for the pumpkin and cool colors for the background. First graders were excited to find that the oil pastel 'pushed away' or resisted the paint!

While learning about globes and maps, Mrs. Latondress 's third grade class made ball globes in social studies🌎. They had fun creating three-dimensional models of Earth. They then used our globes to learn more about continents, oceans, the prime meridian, the equator, and cardinal and intermediate directions.

First graders read a story called The Blackout by John Rocco (for English Language Arts), and then used flashlights to do their work in the dark. They even took their flashlights to the library where they read another book by the same author, and used their flashlights to search for books and explore the library. #LifeintheW
First grade students learned about the butterflies of South America for Hispanic Heritage Month and studied how symmetrical living things can be. They painted one side of the butterfly, then folded it over to print the other side exactly the same- thus creating symmetry.

We kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month in the Elementary Library today! These second grade dual language students are excited about all the books we have that portray, affirm, and celebrate the Hispanic cultural experience.
