In October we shared photos of Mrs. Bogdala's students reading to their friends in Mrs. Barton's class. Now Mrs. Barton's class has returned the favor! Mrs. Barton’s class worked very hard over the past few weeks learning their books and practicing with both their voices and their talkers. Everyone did great reading, listening, and cheering on their friends. #LifeintheW

Elementary students had some very special visitors over the past few days! Members of the Gurnee Fire Department stopped by to teach students about fire safety, what to do if they need to make an emergency call, and what equipment firefighters need to do their jobs. Students were given homework too: 💚 Plan a “meeting spot” outside the home with your family. 💚 Practice saying your address and phone number in case you need to call 9-1-1. Thank you to the Gurnee Fire Team for stopping by and teaching our Wildcats about fire safety!

Physics Lab: Power of People Students in Ms. Dyson’s Science Class were asked to calculate the amount of power they could generate while pulling a bottle up by rotating an axle. #LifeintheW

If you see the bus, you can gather, then drop off your donations for the Annual Food Drive in one easy trip. WMS was thrilled to welcome students from Madrid, Spain to join our 6th Grade Dual Language teams for a presentation and hands-on activity. The students from Madrid were in Chicago to compete in an international Science and Space Exploration competition. This group of young scientists created a "CanSat" which is a mini-satellite capable of measuring different factors including temperature and atmospheric pressure. For a previous project, they used their CanSat to perform a 3D analysis of terrain in order to identify flood zones. This year, they are investigating the resilience of lichens in extreme conditions, which contributes to both space exploration and environmental sustainability. Their presentation at WMS focused on showing students how young people can actively participate in science and technology projects. Mrs. Rinkenberger’s 3rd grade students recently participated in Helping our Heroes as part of Elementary’s Spirit Week. Each day, students would bring in a different coin in an effort to donate to the Lake County Honor Flight - a program where donations enable Veterans to travel to Washington D.C. and visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifice. This is just one of the ways Woodland is encouraging students to become active members of the community by helping, motivating, and encouraging those around them. The grand total and presentation of Woodland’s Elementary’s donation will be announced soon!

Recently, Mrs. Johnson’s music room was filled with singing, drum beats, tambourine jingles, and flashing lights as the 3rd grade students prepared for their upcoming Music Concerts. This is just one of the many concert rehearsals being led by Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Roth, and Ms. Thomason. We don’t want to give too much away, but we can tell you that these Wildcats have put so much time and hard work into rehearsing for their performances and that they have an amazing show planned! Mark your calendars! November 19th & 20th at Woodland Elementary! It’s going to be EPIC!

Mrs. Danielson’s 7th grade Language Arts students read poetry selections from novelist and poet Jason Reynolds’ book, Long Way Down. Reynolds writes about the challenges faced by teenagers and young adults, as well as healthy ways to express emotions and cope with mental health. These WMS students worked on analyzing a poem as well as academic articles that related to the poem. They worked in groups to complete this analysis, then presented what they found to the rest of the class! 💚🐯📚

How to Slay in Science, and other Lab Safety Tips Thank you to Mr. Whiteaker's 7th Grade Science Class for opening up the training lab for guests and visitors. Congratulations to Emersyn and Caylan for being recognized with a Young Citizenship Award from The Exchange Club of Gurnee! In addition to recognizing these amazing Woodland students, the Exchange Club presented all four Woodland school principals with new American Flags for our schools. We appreciate this ongoing support from our wonderful community partners at the Exchange Club. #LifeintheW

At Woodland Elementary, students had the opportunity to learn from Veterans during P.E. classes throughout the day. The students were able to ask questions, and share their thoughts about the significance of the day and why it is important to honor Veterans. #LifeintheW

The students and staff at Woodland Intermediate invited the special veteran in their family to attend a Veterans Day Ceremony. The event featured a selection of patriotic songs of gratitude performed by the Intermediate Choir, and the Veterans Day Writing Contest Winners read their winning entries for the audience. #LifeintheW

Woodland Primary held a Veterans Day program honoring active military members and veterans.
