Welcome to our April/May edition of "WELE Parent News". We recognize that this is a difficult season for many of our families and hope that you are finding creative ways to engage with your children during the Governor’s Stay at Home order in effect through Thursday, April 30th. Our goal with this webpage has been to keep you up to date with what's going on in WELE with regard to parent involvement. We will continue to do that in light of the district's closure yet will also seek to provide you with helpful resources and creative ideas for you to utilize while your students are at home. As always, we welcome your feedback and ideas and encourage you to stay at home and be safe!

Mrs. Lavonna Garner

As an advocate for parents grasping the connection between their involvement and their student’s academic success, I have worked as a parent liaison and facilitator for school district’s in northern Lake County for over 12 years. As a mother of four children ages 26, 24, 20, and 15 years old, one of whom had special needs, I understand the joys and challenges of raising children and advocating for their social-emotional well being and academic success while in school.

I look forward to an exciting year as I continue the work of supporting WELE parents and families here at Woodland Primary! Each of you will be invited to participate in meaningful parent/student or family focused events throughout the school year. There will also be opportunities for you to connect socially with other parents and with me! As the At-Risk Parent Facilitator for WELE, I look forward to partnering with you to help you meet the needs of your student, support your involvement in the program, and strengthen your connection between home and school. Here are just a few ways we can connect:

  • Call my direct line below

  • Send me an email

  • Visit me in Room #48 during my "Drop-In" Office Hours, Wednesdays 12:15pm-2:00pm and Thursdays, 8:15am-10:00am

  • Email or call me to schedule an in office or off-campus (Warren Newport Public Library, local coffee shop, or your home) connection time

  • Visit the Parent Resource Table during Parent Teacher Conferences (11/25-11/26)

In an effort to ensure you are up to date with the work Woodland Primary is doing to inform and engage you, please look for this newsletter bi-monthly. It will highlight upcoming events, provide Parent Tips, list resources, and much more!

I look forward to meeting and connecting with you soon!
