Virtual Summer Camps Added to Day-Long Wildcat Summer Adventures

The day-long Wildcat Summer Adventures program is returning to Woodland District 50 this year, plus fourth through eighth grade students may sign up for a new Virtual Summer Camp with math and language arts.

Wildcat Summer Adventures, for students entering first through eighth grades, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., June 17 through June 28, at Woodland Intermediate School, 1115 N. Hunt Club Road, in Gurnee. Returning will be STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities as well as math, language arts and recreation. Dual language and challenge/advanced options are also available. Virtual Summer Camps, from July 8 through August 2, is for students going into fourth through eighth grade with students expected to spend 10 hours per week online participating in either math or language arts.

Parents will enroll their students in a grade-level class, and the classes will be differentiated by WSA teachers to meet the needs of all learners.

“We are enthusiastic about offering students another way to learn this summer through the Virtual Summer Camps. Students may register for the math camp, the language arts camp, or both and enhance their learning from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection by using their district-issued Chromebooks,” said Ms. Jordan Anderson, director of the summer programs and assistant principal at Woodland Primary School.

The cost for the new Virtual Summer Camps is $150 per camp and students are expected to spend 10 hours a week, per camp, learning online. The cost for Wildcat Summer Adventures is $360 plus $90 if bus transportation is needed.

Woodland’s half-day ESY (Extended School Year) for special needs students will operate separately, from June 17 through July 18.

At Wildcat Summer Adventures, breakfast for $1.25 is optional and students also have the option of buying a hot lunch for $2.95 or bringing a cold lunch. Students who are participating in the free and reduced lunch program may use that for summer school as well.

Registration will be available through April 5.
