The Superintendent’s office oversees all schools, departments and staff in the district. The Superintendent is the Chief Executive Officer and reports directly to the Board of Education. The Superintendent's office is responsible for, but not limited to, the development and maintenance of positive educational programs as well as implementing all federal and state laws and regulations and the implementation of board policies. The Superintendent shall make recommendations to the Board concerning the selection of curriculum and instructional materials, courses of study needed to direct the District's operations, matters related to financial responsibility and the district budget as well as advise on all matters related to personnel.
Dr. Lori Casey
Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Lori Casey is the Superintendent of Woodland District 50 beginning on July 1, 2020.
Dr. Casey began her career in education at the Special Education District of Lake County. After working in the special education district, she worked with children who have learning disabilities and social emotional disorders at Northwood Junior High in Highland Park. She then went to Hawthorn Primary in Vernon Hills to work as a diagnostician and teacher of first and second grade children with learning disabilities, and then as a supportive programs teacher and coordinator at Hawthorn Junior High School.
The position of Education Supervisor for Woodland Middle School brought Dr. Casey to District 50. After that, she became the assistant principal at Elementary East and principal at Woodland Primary. Before becoming Superintendent in July of 2020, she served in the role of Associate Superintendent of Education for 10 years.
Dr. Casey has been awarded the Special Education District of Lake County Outstanding Educator of the Year, Walmart Teacher of the Year as well as a commendation from the Gurnee Police Department for her work in relation to school safety. She serves as a Board Member for the Exchange Club of Gurnee as well as Warren Township Healthy Communities Healthy Youth. She has presented at local and state conferences on Restorative Practices, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and best practices in leadership.
