Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Lisa West
Hello and Welcome to the “Principal’s Page!”
I am Dr. Lisa West and I am the proud principal of Intermediate. I am extremely honored to be a part of the Intermediate team, and I enjoy working closely with students, staff, and families of District 50. Every day is a wonderful day to be a wildcat in Woodland!
I’d like to take some time to share a little information about myself. I grew up in Iowa with my two older brothers and sister. As a child, I loved reading and thought that I would grow up to be an author or maybe an actor because I loved going to the movies. Then, I met Mrs. Steiert, my fourth-grade teacher, and I knew I wanted to be just like her. In college, I discovered my love for young children and I decided to become an elementary school teacher. This love for learning led me to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, and a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University. As you can see, I love learning!
I began my teaching career in Houston, Texas where I taught kindergarten through fifth grade. While in Houston, I had the wonderful opportunity to become an instructional specialist, trainer of trainer for literacy and social studies, and a national trainer for Teachers’ Curriculum Institute. These opportunities instilled in me the love I now have for teaching adults as well as children. After time spent in Texas, I decided to return home to the Midwest where I joined Glencoe District 35. During my tenure there, I taught both fifth and sixth grades before beginning my administrative career in Woodland District 50.
I live in Wauconda, IL with my husband and two Labrador retrievers, Finn and Murray. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, watching football, reality television, and enjoying my favorite snack of chips and salsa, which I always have readily available to share.
As the lead learner of Intermediate, I look forward to the fun, exciting learning experiences yet to come! Please know that my door is always open. So stop by, send me an email or text, and say hello when you can. I look forward to partnering together as we foster a love for learning for all our Wildcats! #LifeintheW
