The Woodland School District serves over 7,000 children in grades K-8 and is located in northern Lake County, Illinois in the towns of Gurnee and Gages Lake.
All Woodland kindergarten students attend Woodland Primary. Our kindergarten is a half-day program with a focus on pre-reading and reading skills. Through differentiated instruction our faculty works hard to facilitate growth for each individual student. The Primary School also has classes for identified children, ages 3-5, who are in our Early Childhood and At-Risk programs.
Woodland Elementary School is really two schools under one roof, each with its own principal, office, library, gymnasiums and playground. The two schools share some services and its cafeteria. The school focuses on the mastery of reading comprehension strategies and decoding skills which are important tools to develop a love for reading. Responsibility, respect, and working cooperatively are emphasized.
Opened in August, 2002, the Intermediate School is Woodland’s newest school. This school operates as two schools under one roof. Each school has its own playground, gymnasium, art and music rooms. They share some resources such as the Learning Resource Center and cafeteria. The major emphasis of the educational program at the Intermediate School is for students to receive a strong academic education in addition to developing a positive and respectful attitude.
