Challenge Programs Starting in grade 2 and continuing through grade 8, we offer enrichment programs in language arts and math for those students who function above average level but do not qualify for our advanced programs. The Challenge Math and Language Arts programs for grades 2-5 provide a twice weekly pull-out enrichment program that supplements the regular curriculum. In the Middle School, Challenge Language Arts is a daily program that uses regular curriculum but provides cross-curricular activities. In Challenge Math the curriculum accelerates in sixth grade so that students who remain in the program are provided pre-algebra and algebra in seventh and eighth grade. Gifted Programs Students with exceptional ability should be challenged to enrich and extend their knowledge and skill level. Woodland School provides identified students with this opportunity in three academic areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, and Creative Art. Students recommended for gifted programs in Language Arts and Mathematics must meet or exceed the selection criteria, which includes an ability test score, nationally formed achievement test scores, grade point average, teacher recommendation as well as various district assessments. To qualify for the Fine Arts enrichment program, students submit a portfolio and complete a district screening test.
