5 Things You Should Know About District 50

August, 2010

Dear Woodland Parents and Families,

Coming soon...a new website:
We’re pleased to announce the upcoming redesign of the district website, www.dist50.net. An External Community Committee of parents, staff and community members met throughout the school year last year to provide input regarding what design, information and navigation features they wanted to see as part of the website. In addition, input was sought from each of the schools. Thank you to the members of the External Community Committee as well as the staff who provided us with this valuable guidance for our new site. The redesigned website includes a map locator feature for each school, the capability to view multiple school and district calendars on one page and an improved search engine. We hope to go live on August 31. We will seek your feedback at that time as we will continue to look for ways to enhance the site over the next several months.

Back-to-School Physicals and Immunizations:
With the start of our 2010-2011 school year  days away, we want to remind you to schedule your children’s school physicals, immunizations and dental exams prior to the first day of school.  Children entering Headstart, kindergarten and 6th grade need school physicals. Up-to-date immunizations and tuberculosis skin tests are required for all preschool, kindergarten and 6th grade students and students who are new to Woodland. In addition, dental exams are required for children entering pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 6th grade. According to the Illinois School Code, children behind on their immunizations will be excluded from attending school.

Woodland Educational Foundation Golf Outing:
I’m pleased to announce that the Woodland Educational Foundation raised $18,000 at the July golf outing held at Geneva National Golf Course in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Next year’s golf outing has been set for July 21, 2011.
The Woodland Educational Foundation creatively generates and distributes resources with which to enrich and enhance the opportunities of educational experiences of Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 students. The Foundation's intent is to create a mechanism to receive and disperse funds, properties and gifts of any kind to benefit the students and staff for innovative projects, student scholarships, support for supplemental projects and technology.
